Please do not bring over the counter medication unless it is needed on a regular basis.

Emergency medications such as epi-pens and inhalers may be carried by campers. We highly recommend you bring two so that your camper can carry one with her and the other can be held by the health supervisor.

Health Check: On arrival day all campers will receive a health screening. All aquatic activities are supervised by certified lifeguards.

Weather and Emergency preparedness: A Girl Scout is always prepared, and that includes at camp. During training, staff learns and practices emergency weather procedures and emergency action plans. If the weather is unusually hot or cold, or in the event of rain, activities will be changed to keep campers safe and comfortable. Weather is constantly being monitored by office staff and there are designated storm shelters throughout camp. Please remember that during weather alerts we will need the phone lines kept open to contact different parts of camp or emergency services. Please refrain from calling camp during severe weather.

Special needs: Camp Evelyn can accommodate a wide variety of special needs. In order to assure your camper's camp experience is successful, please contact the Director of Camp and Program to discuss the camp session and the nature of your daughter's needs before registering her for camp. Special needs may include, but are not limited to physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral, or communication needs.

Homesickness: Camp staff are experienced with helping campers move past homesickness. They will work on getting the camper active and involved, help her meet new friends, and let her know that it is normal to have these feelings. We will also encourage homesick campers to write down their feelings in a letter home. If you receive a letter from camp that is less than positive, don't worry too much.Homesickness is usually over by the time you receive the letter.

You can help your camper cope with homesickness by; speaking openly about how normal the feeling of missing home is and how fast it usually goes away when they get involved in activities. Make her aware of what camp life is like so she is prepared for a new routine, lots of activity, spending the whole day out in nature, sleeping outdoors, using latrines and cooking over a fire. Parents are also encouraged to write positive letters or emails to their camper encouraging her to try new things and stay positive.

If the Director of Camp and Program believes your camper is not adjusting to camp life or having a positive experience, you will be contacted.

Sleeping accommodations: Campers sleep in either a platform tent or tent cabins depending on the unit and session in which she is placed. Decisions on where the girls sleep depend on girl attendance, program session, and availability. Counselors sleep in tents or tent cabins that are sufficiently close by to supervise the girls, but not in the same tents or tent cabins as the girls.

Buddy Request: Campers may request to be placed in the same unit as her friend(s).To ensure this, please list your camper's buddy(s) name(s) on the registration form.Buddies must register for the same session and dates. It is helpful if their registration forms are mailed in the same envelope. Please be aware that campers choose three of their own activities per day, so buddies do not always spend the entire day together.

Unexpected Changes: Although every attempt will be made to follow the activities as mentioned in the camp catalog, all camp sessions are subject to change and activities may be adjusted due to the girls' abilities, weather, or other factors.

Meals: Camp menus are very kid-friendly and meet recommended dietary guidelines. Most meals are prepared by food service staff at the dining hall; however, girls are also given an opportunity to cook at least one meal outdoors. Please note all dietary restrictions (gluten-free, diabetic, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, allergies, etc.) can be accommodated if you contact the Director of Camp and Program in advance. Campers with strict dietary restrictions are welcome to bring a few "alternative" meals if they wish.

Camp Store: A variety of items may be purchased from camping supplies to snacks and souvenirs. Funds can be pre-deposited into your camper's account at the time of registration. Cash, check, credit card, Girl Scouts of Manitou Council gift cards and program credits are accepted. Your remaining balance will be returned to you in the form of a Girl Scouts of Manitou Council gift card. All Campers who have not made a pre-deposit at the time of registration are asked to deposit their money during check-in and it will be held by the canteen manager for the duration of the camp session.

Phones: Campers are not allowed to have cell phones while at camp. We also ask that family and friends not call the camp office to talk to campers as this prevents girls from truly experiencing camp life. The Director of Camp and Program will notify parents/ guardians by phone if there is any kind of accident, illness or other situations involving their daughter.

Letters and Email: Mail is a very important part of a camper's day. A letter or email from home can make the difference between a good day, and a great day! We recommend that you send mail to your camper early or hand them into a staff member at check-in. Camp Evelyn provides a one-way email service. You may email your camper through www.campevelyn.bunk1.com and we will print letters out and distribute them once each day.First-time users must register to use the service.Emails are purchased in packages and cost $1 per email. Campers can reply back to emails if parents purchase "bunk reply stationary" for $2 each. Of course, you can always supply your camper with the traditional stamps and envelopes if you are interested in receiving a letter from camp.

Camp photos and newsletter: Each week camp posts photos of what is going on at camp and a fun newsletter so you can find out what fun activities are happening.
